How to get the full A licence
- Via the A2 licence: after 2 years with an A2, a 7-hour training course at a riding school, with no exam.
- Direct access: from age 24, with a theory and a practical test.
Starting out directly with a full A licence
The full A licence sets no limit, but a very powerful bike is less forgiving of mistakes. To start, a bike with reasonable power, light and low, lets you progress calmly: the quiz takes it into account if you say you are a beginner.
Choosing according to your riding
- Touring: tourer or adventure bike, with wind protection, range and two-up comfort.
- Rides and fun: roadster or retro bike, versatile and pleasant every day.
- Sporty riding: sports bike, best kept for experienced riders; insurance is much more expensive.
Your restricted A2 bike
If your A2 bike is restricted, you can have it derestricted by a professional once you hold the full A licence, then update the registration document.
